Sam W. Fletcher

It’s Our 70th Birthday This Year

Sam W. Fletcher

This year we celebrate 70 years in business.

It was in 1946 that Sam W. Fletcher set-up Electrical Rewinds and Supplies to service the local industry around Stoke on Trent. The business grew and developed into Fletcher Bickerton Ltd. and quickly gained a reputation for quality in repairing rotating machines. In the early 1980s Fletcher Bickerton Ltd. bought a small electronics company in the Staffordshire Moorlands to repair industrial electronic equipment, Moorland Electronics Ltd was born and offered our customers a genuine alternative to the OEM for electronic repairs.

As I get older, time does seem to fly and I recall ‘officially’ starting work in 1996 after university, during our 50th year in business. That was when we combined our electro-mechanical division with our electronics division and combining both company names to create Fletcher Moorland Ltd. (I said officially as I recall sweeping the factory floor when I was 9 years old and then I think every Saturday and school holiday onwards)

Although Sam W. Fletcher passed away in 1984 I do often wonder what he would make of the business now? For sure he’d understand electric motors but to see servo motors with feedback systems, touch screen machine controllers and the complex electronic PCBs we repair, I think would amaze him.

Fletcher Moorland is still a family run business, from Sam W. Fletcher to Malcolm P. Fletcher and now the third generation with Matt Fletcher, owner and Managing Director overseeing the business for the next generation.
